Do: Understand LED displays.
LED screens are the most preferred option when showcasing videos at events because they have relatively low power consumption and offer great video quality, even in direct sunlight. They are also durable and can withstand weather making them perfect for outdoor installations, usually the case for music festivals.
You can choose between the single large LED displays, or the modular screens. The latter are made of tiles that can be put together to create a video wall. You can customise these according to the size and shape that you need for your event. Furthermore, you can choose from sub-categories – either discrete LED or SMD (Surface Mounted Diode). The latter are designed to be mounted on chips instead of soldered through and have three tiny LEDs per chip. Meanwhile, discrete LED screens are the most common and made of pixels formed by a cluster of one blue, one green and two red LEDs.
Don’t: Install the wrong choice of display.
It is more than likely that discrete LED system will be used in your music festival. And also more than likely that you’ll hire a company to install these displays for you. As the organiser, you have to make sure that you are choosing the right display for your needs. If you need custom size and shape displays, make sure to opt for video panels that offer scalability to whatever size, shape, resolution and aspect ration.
Don’t choose single-screen or modular LED system just because they are easier to install, or are being offered at much more affordable price. Besides, modular panels will usually include gaps between panels and have high power draw. You don’t want to end up paying more for electricity while having a sub-par display output for your event.
Do: Know what preference your performers have.
The best thing about most festival video panels is that they can be modified to suit whatever needs you have. 90-degree corners make it easy to dress out a stage design necessary for the event, or whatever the performers have in mind. In case your artists have a specific LED display size in mind, you can always build to such specifications using modular panels.

Don’t: Installing LED display without considering all factors.
When hiring LED screens for your festivals, it’s not only the artists’’ preferences you need to consider. You also have to think about what fits the overall aesthetics of your events. In addition, you need to decide whether you can go for panels with high power consumption and heavier overall weight. They are usually the cheaper option, however heavy installations can cause problems if there are severe weather or strong winds during the event.
Thanks to evolving technology in mass-producing LED displays, they are now becoming more and more affordable. It’s also became easier for festival organisers to display content during events. But, it is still important to be discerning on what LED screen to use during your festival or event.
